Meet Team Hex
A group of 20 fearless apprentices from The HEX Group, led by dedicated apprentice manager, Will. While the team spans a wide range of disciplines—from engineering to graphics—they share a common bond: the drive to overcome challenges together.
Conquer Tough Mudder as a Team and Make a Difference with givestar
The idea of tackling Tough Mudder initially sparked interest from around 30 people, the realities of the mud, obstacles, and endurance kicked in, and some stepped back, leaving the fearless 20, ready to take on the challenge. Their motivation is strong, and they have already dived into training and fundraising to ensure they’re prepared to conquer the course.
Running for a Cause: Race Against Blood Cancer
Selecting a charity to support was no easy task, as many meaningful causes were close to the team’s hearts. Ultimately, Team Hex Apprentices chose Race Against Blood Cancer, a small charity dedicated to increasing blood and stem cell donor registrations, especially among under represented groups.
A cause that is particularly important to Josh Wareham, a second-year engineering apprentice. Josh shared, “My nan has blood cancer, and running this race in her honor means the world to me. She’s been battling for about a year, and while it’s been tough, she’s staying strong.”
By raising funds and awareness for Race Against Blood Cancer, the team hope to help eliminate barriers to donor registration and make a difference for families like Josh’s.
Why Tough Mudder?
For the team, Tough Mudder represents an exciting challenge that tests both mental and physical resilience. The camaraderie, adrenaline, and unforgettable memories that come with navigating the mud, water, and electric shocks are what inspired them to sign up.
While it’s the first time any are taking on this course, they are hopeful it will become a new annual tradition for apprentices to support worthy causes.
Team Hex Apprentices Training Plan
Preparation is in full swing! Combining individual efforts with team bonding activities to get run-ready, Friday evenings are their dedicated “run club,” where they work toward running 5k, 10k, and 15k milestones together. Beyond running, some have formed a cycling club called “Alpha Pedals,” where endurance rides—like a recent 37km trek—build on strength and teamwork.
Workouts range from gym sessions to swimming and mountain biking, ensuring they’re ready for anything Tough Mudder throws their way.
The Challenge Ahead
”When we think of Tough Mudder, three words come to mind: challenging, exciting, and camaraderie. That camaraderie will be essential, especially when we face obstacles like the infamous Block Ness Monster or anything electric, tops our fears” shares apprentice manager, Will.
Why givestar?
”We chose the givestar fundraising platform for its innovative and team-friendly features. The platform encourages some healthy fundraising competition among our team members, while still contributing to our group total. Plus, with givestar’s contactless payment feature, donating couldn’t be easier—there’s no excuse not to support us ” explains Will.
