SAFETY INFORMATION & WAIVER

GENERAL SAFETY

Tough Mudder is a genuine challenge, designed to test you both physically & mentally – however all obstacles are optional and the most important thing is to get to the finish line safely. Listen to your body while out on course. Stay hydrated, take breaks when necessary, keep an eye out for other Mudders and only attempt obstacle if you are comfortable with your ability to overcome the challenge.

You must be able to swim 25 metres to attempt water obstacles. Diving is not safe or permitted at any water body on a Tough Mudder course.

If you have metal in your body, a pacemaker, or a history of epilepsy, you should not attempt Electroshock Therapy, Entrapment, or any other obstacle containing electricity. If in doubt, please use the available bypass or ask a member of staff before beginning the event.

ILLNESS

Although unlikely, contact with mud, animals and recreational water may cause illness. If you begin to feel unwell with symptoms such as fever, diarrhoea or vomiting, particularly if lasting for 3 or more days, please consult your doctor.

MEDICAL CONDITIONS

Ensure that your fellow Mudders know any medical conditions you may have such as asthma, diabetes or other medical problems in case you need assistance. Ensure you have sufficient supplies of your medication, for example if you carry an inhaler having a spare in your bag at the finish may be useful.

ALLERGIES

During your Tough Mudder experience you’ll be offered various food and drink on the course and in the event village following your run. If you do have any allergies then please read the signage at the feed and water stations, if you have any doubts please ask a member of staff. It is also prudent to notify your fellow Mudders of any allergies before you run and if you are running solo then we advise wearing a medical alert device.

Please read the dietary information of the products on course and in the finish chute.

PARTICIPANT AGE

You must be at least 13 years old to participate in a Tough Mudder 5K event. Participants between 13 and 18 years of age must run with a chaperone above the age of 18. Anyone under the age of 13 found running the course will be removed.

CLOTHING

Wearing the correct clothing can help prevent injury. For more detailed information please see our what to wear page.

MEDICAL ASSISTANCE

There is a wide range of medical support available onsite, including a fully equipped Medical Treatment Facility in the event village, as well as clinical staff distributed around the course. If you feel unwell, or find someone else who is ill/injured, please contact a medic or member of the event team. If you cannot see a medic or member of staff, you should cross your arms above your head to form an “X”. On seeing this signal, participants are asked to repeat this gesture along the course route until it reaches the nearest member of staff who will get an appropriate medical resource to respond. Further explanation will be provided during event day in briefings.

UNDERSTANDING SIGNAGE AT TOUGH MUDDER

There are various signs onsite at all Tough Mudder events which are designed to help and inform you whilst enjoying your experience.

Each obstacle has a named sign placed immediately before it. Pay attention to the boxes at the bottom of these signs, they will give you a quick reference guide to completing the obstacle safely and successfully.

SAFETY SIGNAGE

If an obstacle has specific safety requirements these will be communicated with a specific sign warning of a danger or advising of a skill set required to complete the obstacle safely.

If you see a red sign like the one below make sure you take the time to read and understand the warning.

WATER DEPTH SIGNAGE

One of the most important things to be aware of on a Tough Mudder is the depth of the water you are about to enter. Water depth is shown against a 6ft Mudder on both our safety and obstacle signage.

There is no Tough Mudder obstacle that requires diving or jumping specifically into water. You may fall into water during the completion of the obstacle or step off into water at our events but diving and jumping are not part of the experience and could cause substantial harm to you and other Mudders.

Remember whenever you are at a water obstacle always follow the directions of water safety and volunteers.
