Consistently voted the must fun obstacle on course Mudders rejoiced when we announced the Block Ness Monster would be on all 15K and 10K courses, thanks to our long term friends Lidl , this year.
It means that this year more Mudders than ever are tackling the mythical beast with their team, so along with Lidl, we’ve compiled our top tips for getting the whole gang through the spin cycle.
4 TOP TIPS FOR TACKLING BLOCK NESS MONSTER
1. COMMUNICATE WITH YOUR FELLOW MUDDERS
That doesn’t just mean the people you came with. The likelihood is that you’ll be in the water with lots of people and you’ll need to work with all of them to slay the beast.
When Mudders don’t talk to each other you end up with everyone trying to climb over in one go and ultimately no one going anywhere. If you see a load of Mudders hanging on to the top of a block rally your pack and start pushing from the bottom…
2. DRIVE UP WITH YOUR ARMS AND LEGS
You need plenty of momentum to get those big old blocks turning so squat down and push the block up using the edge that’s sitting beneath the water. It will take a few of you but once you’ve set the spin cycle in motion you’ll be able to hop on board.
3. HANG ON AND PULL DOWN
As you rise out of the water riding the crest of the Block Ness Monster like some kind of incredibly brave dragon-slaying hero it’s easy to slide off the other side and sink into the murky water.
Instead do a quick 180 and try to hang on to the top of the block and let your body weight pull it down – helping everyone on the other side get up and over.
4. MAKE SURE EVERYONE IS OVER
After taking on two churning challenges it’s tempting to hop off out of the water in search of your next adventure but remember that course times don’t matter here and no one cares how quickly you get to the finish line.
Why not spend a few minutes helping some strangers follow in your footsteps? You’ll be surprised at how many friends you’ll make and you might just need them to offer you a hand at the next obstacle.
You what? You’ve never faced the Block Ness Monster? Well it’s about time you did. Tough Mudder tickets are still available but start waves are selling out quickly, so take the plunge.
Supporting you through Block Ness Monster are our friends at Lidl, they are doing amazing things at our events this year.
