Frequently Asked Questions
What is Tough Mudder?
Tough Mudder is a community built on teamwork and overcoming obstacles, where stepping outside your comfort zone is the reward. Events featuring world-class obstacles, that range from 5K to 100 miles, create unforgettable experiences and are designed to help you accomplish something bigger than yourself.
How Long is the Tough Mudder course?
We have different adventures to choose from featuring all different course lengths and difficulties:
A 1 mile course for ages 5-12.
Tough Mudder 5K: 5K course featuring 13 obstacles
Tough Mudder 10K: 10K course featuring 20 obstacles
Tough Mudder 15K: 15K course featuring 30 obstacles
Tough Mudder Infinity: A new multi-lap competitive endurance experience, launching on September 28, 2021. Toughest Mudder: 12 hours, through the night, how many miles can you run?
World’s Toughest Mudder: the most extreme, insane, imposing, pulse-pounding, heart-stopping 24-hour obstacle course challenge on the planet.
The average finish time for a Tough Mudder 5K is 1-2 hours; for Tough Mudder 10K it’s 2.5-3 hours; for Tough Mudder 15K it’s 3.5-4 hours. That said, Tough Mudder 5K, Tough Mudder 10K, and Tough Mudder 15K aren’t timed races, so you (or your team) can go at your own pace. How long an event will take you depends on your level of fitness, your experience, and whether or not you’ve been training.
Tough Mudder 5K, 10K and 15K are not races. A Tough Mudder event is a personal challenge with the goal of overcoming obstacles and completing the course. This is why we do not time people on our Lidl Mudder, 5K, 10K or 15K courses and why we try to avoid using the word “race” when describing our events.
For those Mudders interested in competition, we offer a competitive Endurance Series, consisting of Tough Mudder Infinity, Toughest Mudder and World’s Toughest Mudder.
How Much Running is There at Tough Mudder?
That depends on your event: You can choose 5K, 10K or 15K depending on the event location. But any all-out sprinting (or jogging…or walking…these events aren’t timed, you can go at your own pace) will be broken up by our world-class obstacles. Want to raise your running game? Our expert running tips will help you kick butt between obstacles.
Can You Do Tough Mudder Alone? Do I Need Team?
You sure can. Participants can run as individuals and there will be plenty of people on course to help when needed. From the start line experience through the last obstacle you will have many new friends willing to lend you a helping hand where needed.
If you want to run at the same time as your friends and family you will need to create and join a team in Active. Once you have booked your tickets a team captain will need to login to Active and create a team, the other members of the team will then need to sign into Active and join the team.
