How to use your Mind to Conquer Tough Mudder – Part 2

Welcome to part 2 of ‘How to use your Mind to Conquer Tough Mudder.’ In part 1 we learned how to shut out the pain of burning muscles, and the importance of going ‘all in’. Now we’re going to wrap it up with 2 more mindset tricks that you can use to conquer Tough Mudder, Tough Mudder Half or any obstalce you might face.

Tap your full potential:

You’ve heard the stories of mothers lifting a two-tonne car from on top of their child and the like?  Do you think this lady could walk into the gym and lift that much on a normal day? Of course not, but they do always have that potential within them. When you have a big enough reason driving you, it is possible to do super-human things. So find that reason. Attach your desire to succeed to something meaningful.

Find out what you are fighting for. Connect success in this endeavour with something that is so meaningful to you, it taps into that higher performance potential. If the thing that you value most highly is setting a great example for your children, you can connect that with the desire to succeed. Do you want to set the example that you quit when it gets hard? That you won’t go through pain to achieve your goals?

Every little counts:

What you do in training dictates what you are capable of on the big day. Are you pushing yourself to improve every single day? Are you committed to doing one extra rep, an extra hundred metres, every single training session?Progress does not come in great big leaps. It comes in tiny, almost imperceptible shifts on a day to day basis. To really make the most progress, you need to be pushing yourself that tiny little bit further at every opportunity.

It won’t seem like much difference at the time, but when you look back over the course of weeks and months, you will have made great leaps, without even realising it. It is the small things, done on a consistent basis, that eventually add up to big success. While you can use mind hacks on the day to eak out the most from your potential, your potential will only grow with consistent improvement in training, over time.

The further you push your potential, the greater your performance will be. Using these mindset tricks, you can control your mind and overcome anything.

Share this with your team and we’ll see you in the mud.
