Ensuring you are drinking enough water is very important for your health. Less headaches, more energy. Hit your training properly when you’re hydrated.
On average we should be drinking 2 litres of water a day (if you didn’t know). That’s the equivalent of 8 glasses, 3 and a half pints, or 2000ml.
We know ensuring you drink this much a day is never easy. Ahead of National Hydration Week (March 13-19), we spoke to Actiph, our official finish-line water partner, to curate some tips to help you drink more and stay hydrated.
1. Use A Water Bottle
Sounds obvious but it’s a quick work around to getting up and going through multiple glasses of water in a day, or even a couple of hours. Get a water water bottle.
Carrying a water bottle is easy and means you can have an easy drink on the go. It’s less hassle and typically holds more water than a glass, can or other method. You can also take it as an opportunity to be creative with what water bottle you get, whether that’s big, small, medium or if it has a funky pattern on.
2. Keep Track Of How Much You Drink
Hold yourself accountable, make notes and put pen to paper to really manage your litres. If you can see that you’re only drink two glasses of water and are below the benchmark, then use the notes to motivate you and drink more. Perhaps you could create a drinking diary?
3. Have A Drink When You Eat
Most people have 3 meals a day. Every time you sit down to have a meal, make sure you are having a glass of water as well. It is just as important to fuel your body with water as it is to fill it with food. By having a drink of water with every meal that is guaranteed to have you drinking at least 3 glasses a day.
4. Set Reminders
With the technology we have available to us, there is no excuse to not drink water. Set reminders on your phone or ask a friend to remind you during your breaks to have a drink of water.
It may sound stupid or silly but it’ll be sure to keep you on track.
5. Drink When You Wake Up
Forget looking at your phone, the first thing you should do when you wake up in the morning is have a glass of water. How many times have you woke up with a headache or with a dry mouth? You’ve spent all night asleep not drinking, it only makes sense for it to be the first thing you do when you wake up.
