The Tough Mudder season may be over for 2023, but that doesn’t mean training has to stop. In fact, it’s the perfect time to start training for 2024. In this blog, we’ll be breaking down why hydration is so important to your training and how to level up your 2024 efforts.
Our official isotonic drinks partner, Emerge, is a great way to boost your hydration and boost your exercises. Containing carbohydrates, electrolytes, and water, it’s got everything you need to keep you going in the toughest moments.
Effects On Your Body
It’s really important to keep getting fluids on board when you’re training and exercising, whether it’s a bottle of water or an isotonic drink.
By staying hydrated, you’ll be keeping your body temperature regulated, meaning you won’t overheat and can keep going for longer. Your joints will be lubricated so you’ll be more likely to avoid injuries and cramp (everybody hates getting cramp!). It even improves sleep quality and is proven to boost your mood. So, if you’re looking to get a good rest or get rid of a bad mood, grab a bottle of something to keep you hydrated. That should sort you out.
Top Tips
Here’s just a few helpful Tough Mudder tips to help you stay hydrated.
- Try to have a soft drink with every meal. This could be water, some juice or squash
- Have a piece of fruit or veg as a snack instead of some chocolate or a pack of crisps
- If you feel a headache coming on, try to have a drink. This might cure you!
- Keep an eye on your wee

How To Manage It
Experts think that women should be drinking an average of 11 cups of water a day, 16 for men. However, before you start panicking about that being too much. Experts also say that these cups don’t have to come in the form of actual water, they can be through fruit, vegetable, tea or even coffee.
Your body has become good at telling you when you’re dehydrated. Feel a headache coming on? That may be because you’re dehydrated. A well-known way of telling if you’re dehydrated is also by checking the colour your wee. Without going in to too much detail, the clearer or lighter the shade, the better. If it’s looking more like apple juice, grab a drink, you’re dehydrated.
