Faces of Tough Mudder: Debbie’s Volunteering Journey

Volunteering at Tough Mudder is more than just giving back. It’s about joining the MVP (Most Valuable Player) community, gaining valuable behind-the-scenes experience, and enjoying numerous perks. Debbie’s story highlights the transformative impact of the Volunteer Programme on her Tough Mudder journey.

Debbie’s Story

Discovering the Tough Mudder Volunteer Programme

Debbie began volunteering in 2016 after noticing a note in an email offering a discounted or free run in exchange for volunteering. Eight years later, she has completed 30 shifts, running on Saturdays and volunteering on Sundays.

Favourite Roles

“My favourite place to volunteer is on the Info Desk. Over the years, my knowledge of the event, its process, and how things work has grown, enabling me to assist with more complex bookings. I also love volunteering at the Finish Line, ensuring each runner has the best finisher experience possible.”

Building a Community

“Over the years, I’ve gotten some family members to volunteer with me, and we all have a blast together. My sister and I particularly enjoy volunteering during the night at Europe’s Toughest Mudder, where our words mean so much to the runners, especially at 1 o’clock in the morning when they are a few laps in.”

MVP Programme Perks

“Every time I volunteer, I get to chat with like-minded people and learn about their Tough Mudder experiences. The more you get to know people, the bigger the community and your circle of friends grow. Other benefits of the programme include a heavily discounted ticket to participate on another day, as well as merchandise perks like a t-shirt, hoodie (depending on your volunteer shift), and a cap, along with lunch provided. It offers a glimpse behind the scenes of how Tough Mudder is run and showcases the value of the community driving it.”
