Tough Mudder combines endurance, strength, and power – all while overcoming a series of challenging obstacles. With this being said, it is important to follow an effective training and nutrition plan leading up to the big day.

To prepare for this most effectively, a balance of resistance and endurance training should be conducted, leading up to your event. You can find our official training guides here. To ensure your workouts are high intensity they can be complimented with Nutramino’s HEAT range, which contains caffeine and a range of vitamins to support your energy.

Nutramino’s LEAN protein shake, with 25g of high-quality protein, is a perfectly convenient and tasty solution post training to help repair those tired muscles after tough sessions. If your training session has been intense, muscle carbohydrate stores may also need to be replenished, Nutramino’s XL shake ensures this recovery base is covered with 50g of carbohydrate.

Nutrition and supplementation are key to support your training goals and get you to the start line. It is important to maintain a healthy diet leading up to the event. The right nutrition is not just about body composition; it is about having the right balance of, nutrients carbohydrates, protein, and fats to support fuelling and recovery after each session. This will enhance your training adaptations.

2 days before the event you should think about carb loading. This is where you increase the amount of carbs in your diet and completely fill up your carb stores. This is important as carbohydrates will be your primary energy source on event day. Ensure you are hydrated by consuming water and a range of other fluids in the lead up to race day. Aim to consume 2-4 L each day depending on your individual hydration needs. Ensure you get a good night’s sleep the night before the challenge, of at least 8 hours, so that you wake up fresh and ready. Don’t forget to perform to warm up your entire body before your run.

Remember, Tough Mudder is not about competing against the clock or the person next to you, it is all about testing your own limits and enjoying the experience and these tips will get you there.
