What is Tough Mudder?

How long is the Tough Mudder course? How far is a 5K?
Tough Mudder Classic is one massively muddy 8-10 mile loop with 25 epic obstacles. Tough Mudder 5K packs the same mud-soaked mayhem into a shorter distance with 13 obstacles. How long will it take?
The average finish time for a Tough Mudder 5K is 1-2 hours; for Tough Mudder Classic it’s 3.5-4 hours. That said, Tough Mudder 5K and Tough Mudder Classic and aren’t timed races, so your team can go at its own pace. How hard is a Tough Mudder?
Tackling a Tough Mudder is a different challenge for everyone, whether you’re taking on the 5K or going for the Classic. Tough Mudder events are designed to test your all-around fitness, but that alone won’t get you through—you’ll also need a ton of teamwork to overcome the obstacles and complete the course. How much running is there in a Tough Mudder?
That depends on your event: Tough Mudder 5K is 3 miles long, while Tough Mudder Classic is one 8-10 mile loop, depending on the event location. But any all-out sprinting (or jogging...or walking…these events aren’t timed, you can go at your own pace) will be broken up by our world-class obstacles. Want to raise your running game? Can you do Tough Mudder alone? Do I need a team?
You’ll need help from your fellow Mudders to conquer some of Tough Mudder’s most insane obstacles, but you DON’T need a team to register for a Tough Mudder event, thanks to our new Solo Runner Waves. Just register, then follow the instructions to “join a team” and search for “Solo Runners".

How Do I Join a Team?
If you want to run at the same time as your friends and family you will need to create and join a team in Active. Once you have booked your tickets a team captain will need to login to Active and create a team, the other members of the team will then need to sign into Active and join the team.

What should I wear to a Tough Mudder?
- Start with a good pair of running shoes (that you're not too attached to) with good cushioning, traction, and drainage.
- Form-fitting, light weight, breathable gear (always check the weather and adjust accordingly).
- Awesome fancy dress (if that's your thing).
What should I bring to a Tough Mudder?
- A Positive Attitude
- ID + your ticket (printed or screenshot)
- Change of Clothing + Shoes
- Sun cream
- Plastic Bag (for wet, muddy gear)
- Cash for snacks and extra drinks
Will there be food and water on course at Tough Mudder?
Yes, Tough Mudder will have 4-6 water stations along the course, and there’s food for sale throughout the day. If you have food allergies or specific diet requirements, you will be allowed to bring in small snacks, but otherwise, no outside food is allowed into the event.
Is there a minimum age to participate in a Tough Mudder event?
Yes—Tough Mudder 5K participants must be at least 13 years old and Tough Mudder Classic participants must be at least 14 years old. The events in the competitive series are all 18+. Mini Mudder participants must be aged 5-12.
Any participant under the age of 18 taking part in the Tough Mudder 5K or Tough Mudder Classic events will need to be accompanied on course by a chaperone who is 18+ years older.
How do I get my photos from my event?
The link to photos for events will be emailed to you the following week.
I need to change my start time; how do I do this?
In 2019 start times will be strictly enforced. Your start time will be emailed to you 10 days before your event and is also available in the Start Time Lookup Tool. Please arrive one hour before your designated start time.
We cannot change start times once they have been allocated so please do not contact customer services to try and change your start time. If for some reason you have been given a different start time to the rest of your team or you miss your start time we have an on-site standby process to manage this. Simply head to the Start Time Lookup Tent once you have checked in and we will ensure you can run with your team).
My start time is different than that of my team; what do I do?
Please come to the event and check in with your team. Then head to the Start Time Lookup tent, they will be able to ensure you can run with your team.
How do I buy parking, bag drop and other add-ons?
Event add-ons such as parking, bag drop and premium waves such as Tougher Mudder and First Mud can all be purchased through Active once you have bought a Tough Mudder participant ticket.

Are dogs allowed at the event?
In 2019 dogs are allowed on-site at Tough Mudder events with spectators, however please make sure you keep your dog on a lead and supervised at all times and make sure you clean up after it.

I want to transfer my event, how do I do this?
If you're trying to transfer your event to another person please do not try to do this via your Active account. If there is more than one week before your event please email [email protected] If there is less than one week until your event then the new participant should come to the event with the original ticket and proof that they have permission from the original ticket holder (a signed letter or email from the ticketholder's email address). On arrival they should head to the Information Desk.
