Dishing the dirt on Tough Mudder

Yep, that’s right, we are dishing the dirt on all things Tough Mudder. Just when you thought you knew it all…THINK AGAIN.

1. Last year we saw a total of 95,118 Mudders.

WOW safe to say you guys absolutely smashed it. No matter the event you find yourself attending this year, one thing remains true. Mudder Nation is a friendly, social bunch, set on bettering themselves and having fun. No matter where you go, you’ll meet new people and have a chance to share a finisher beer.

2. It can take 2-4 weeks to plan a Tough Mudder course.

We go through a process of working with the venue to establish a boundary & restraints plan and go from there. We then spend a couple of days on-site sometimes more over numerous visits to identify potential obstacle build locations and connecting routes, before producing various versions for consideration, review, and approval.

3. Mudderhorn was nearly called “The Horn”.

Doesn’t have quite the same ring to it. Mudderhorn is infinitely more menacing and accurate!

4. It can take up to 5 days to build Mudderhorn.

Mudderhorn is our biggest obstacle and can take up to 5 days, depending on the size of the team and what else they’re working on concurrently. Our Construction team is usually on-site up to 2 weeks prior to the event weekend to ensure they have enough time to get through each of our obstacles, especially some of the larger excavations and scaffold builds.

5. What about Well swung & Arctic Enema?

Arctic Enema is slightly easier, without the need for excavation, and so we may have a team of 3 – 4 working on it. Well Swung requires more work because of the excavation involved, and so 4 – 6 different members of the team might be involved at different stages of the build.
