Traitors stars reunite to take on London West in aid of Alzheimer’s Research UK
The stars of ”The Traitors” UK reunited to face the gruelling Tough Mudder London West challenge.
Led by Diane Carson, the team, which included her son Ross and other castmates, drew upon the close bonds formed during their experience on the hit TV series, supporting and encouraging each other to overcome their fears and conquer the challenging course. They demonstrated incredible teamwork and resilience plunging into the freezing depths of Artic Enema and being zapped by 10,000 volts as they charged through Electroshock Therapy towards the finish line to receive their well-earned medal.
Why put themselves through this?
Spearheading this effort in memory of her late father, Stanley, who died with vascular dementia, Diane wants to do everything she can to prevent other families going through similar experiences.
“Taking on Tough Mudder is more than just a physical challenge for me, it’s a testament to the strength, joy and spirit of my dad. Dementia robbed him of who he was, it was devastating to witness.”
What causes dementia?
Dementia is the UK’s biggest killer and caused by physical diseases in the brain, the most common being Alzheimer’s Disease. Vascular dementia is the second most common form of dementia, after Alzheimer’s.
Sadly, there’s no sure-fire way to prevent dementia yet, as some of the things that affect our risk, including our age and our genes, we can’t change. But the good news is, just as we can protect other areas of our health, we can take steps to keep our brains healthy and help reduce our risk of developing dementia in later life.
Three simple rules to help reduce the risk of dementia
Love your heart: Because what’s good for your heart is good for your brain.
Stay sharp: Regularly challenging your brain can help protect it as you get older.
Keep connected: Research suggests that keeping connected to the people around you is the third piece of the puzzle when it comes to looking after your brain.
Additionally, you can find out how to show your brain some extra love by taking the brilliant Think Brain Health check-in.
What can you do to help?
Alzheimer’s Research UK is leading the search for a cure, and they need our support. So we’re encouraging you to grab your colleagues or mates and together, run in support of their life-changing work. Only a third of people in the UK realise that it’s possible to reduce their dementia risk and by being physically active, you’re making a start.
Emma Whitcombe, Deputy Chief Executive at Alzheimer’s Research UK, said:
“We are immensely grateful to Diane and her castmates from The Traitors for taking on Tough Mudder in aid of Alzheimer’s Research UK.
“Dementia is the UK’s biggest killer and with almost one million people living with dementia in the country today, we must give hope to families who’re relying on us to find life-changing treatments. We’d like to thank Diane and her faithful team for standing with us for a cure.”
Make every mud-splattered mile count in the battle against dementia for Alzheimer’s Research UK.
